Day 1

Friday, 20 March 2020

Early morning departure from London for our crossing to the continent.

Day 2

Saturday, 21 March 2020

British XXX Corps with British 6th Airborne Division attached was tasked with clearing the area East of Dinant, Rochefort, Grupont and Bure. Celles where the German advance was stopped. See a Panther tank knocked out by the Royal Tank Regiment. Short service at the Hotton cemetery. La-Roche-en-Ardenne, witness the former location of the British counter attacks. The 3rd Parachute Brigade attacked and recaptured the town of Rochefort & Beauraing.

Day 3

Sunday, 22 March 2020

Depart Tellin and follow path taken by paras to Bure. In the fight to capture Bure and the surrounding villages, many units sustained heavy casualties. The 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion lost about a third its strength. The 2nd Battalion, Ox and Bucks. The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry and 23rd Hussars also suffered heavy casualties including the loss of sixteen Sherman tanks. Bure for Ceremony and reception hosted by the Bourgmestre. We visit the Croix Renkin.

Monday, 23 March 2020

Visit site of the Bande Massacre. We drive from the Ardennes for our Rhine Crossing hotel.

Day 5

Tuesday, 24 March 2020

Hamminkeln for reception hosted by the Burgermiester. Hamminkeln Station for wreath laying service at 2 Oxf & Bucks LI Memorial. Battlefield tour: DZ ‘A’ 3 Para Bde - DZ ‘B’ 5 Para Bde; LZ ‘P’ Kopenhof Farm. Bridge Royal Ulster Rifles.

Day 6

Wednesday, 25 March 2020

Reichswald CWGC Service of Remembrance. Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery. Advance on the Rhineland: the fighting at Xanten, Goch and the Hochwald Gap. The Rhine crossings between Rees and Wesel.

Day 7

Thursday, 26 March 2020

Return to UK with stop in the Belgian city of Bruges for personal sightseeing and shopping.
