Itinerary

Day 1

Thursday, 20 May 2021

Depart central London and head to Kent, affectionately known as the ‘Garden of England’. Begin with a visit to a private quintessential English country garden, with its 100-year-old trees, crop of nuts and homemade compost, this 5 acre garden combines wild flowers, island beds and water features. Next you will visit Leeds Castle, used by Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. The castle is set in 500 acres of Kentish parkland, formal gardens, including the Lady Baillie Mediterranean Garden Terraces, The Culpeper Garden, Prince Alexandra Gardens, and several water features, making it a sanctuary for wildlife and waterfowl. Dinner and overnight in Kent.

Day 2

Friday, 21 May 2021

Start today visiting another two private gardens, where the owners will tell you about the story behind their gardens. The gardens are combinations of vegetable gardens, water springs, bamboo borders, romantic woodland glades and colourful bulb plants. Continue to one of the most visited gardens in England, Sissinghurst Castle Garden, home of author Vita Sackville-West which is made up of 10 beautiful gardens and a moated Elizabethan manor house and tower. Your final stop today will be to a Kent vineyard, rumoured to be the winery that supplied the wine for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Enjoy a tour of the vineyard, followed by a tasting – the perfect (and refreshing) way to end the day! Dinner and overnight in Kent.

Day 3

Saturday, 22 May 2021

Discover 11 acres of beautiful borders and vistas at the stunning, and award winning, Pashley Manor Gardens. A typical English country garden with its sweeping herbaceous borders, well maintained lawns, box hedges, espaliered rose walk, historic walled garden, kitchen gardens and much more. The garden is a haven for wildlife, from bees and butterflies to moor hens and a black swan. Continue to nearby Merriments, specialising in unusual perennials, and with a contemporary style you will enjoy both formal and wild planting. Afternoon visit to Great Dixter, the family home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd. The gardens, surrounding the 15th century house, include the wall garden, a barn garden, an exotic garden, topiary lawn, a horse pond and water moat, as well as many more areas and features that link to Christopher Lloyd and his designs and writings. Dinner and overnight in Kent.

Day 4

Sunday, 23 May 2021

Visit Nymans, a garden lovers’ home for all seasons, with an extensive yet intimate garden set around a romantic house and ruins. In spring see blossom, bulbs, a stunning collection of subtly fragranced magnolias and a rose garden scented by hints of old-fashioned roses. Afternoon visit to Borde Hill, a beautiful and botanically rich heritage garden, set within over 200 acres of traditional parkland. It’s series of intimate ‘living garden rooms’, fine woodland, parkland, lakes and outstanding views across the Sussex High Weald never cease to captivate its visitors. Dinner and overnight Kent.
