St Cuthbert's Way

St Cuthbert's Way

St Cuthbert's Way

Walk the St Cuthbert's Way - crossing the Scottish border into Northern England. Starting in Melrose, where St Cuthbert started his religious life in 650AD and ending on the Holy Island, his original pilgrimage shrine and where he was originally laid to rest (before his relics were later moved to Durham Cathedral). Walk through historic villages, across stunning scenery and overnight in small hotel/inn accommodation.

Tour Highlights

  • The 62-mile route is one of the most stunning and varied long distance walking routes in Britain.
  • Begin at the gates of the 12th century Melrose Abbey; it is thought Cuthbert may have been influenced by the monks in the nearby Abbey in his early years.
  • Walk across farmland and woodland, and across the banks of the River Tweed
  • Cross the River Till and walk along some typical Roman roads.
  • Overnight in villages such as Jedburgh, Kirk Yetholm, and Wooler
  • Cross the famous causeway to reach Holy Island of Lindisfarne; depending on tides take the Causeway Road or walk in the footsteps of historic pilgrims as you tread across the sands
  • Pilgrim stay on Lindisfarne - attend a local service and visit the Priory and Centre
  • Extend your tour to Bamburgh for a boat trip to Inner Farne Island, where Cuthbert moved to after retiring from monastic life, visit Bamburgh Castle and continue to Durham Cathedral, where St Cuthbert's relics are interred
  • The walk can be undertaken as guided or self-guided
  • Luggage transfer can be organised between the accommodation stops

What Our Clients Say

I was very fortunate to be on their 70th and 75th D-Day celebration tours. The service and attention to details was exceptional. It was very moving to go back.

As a Jane Austen enthusiast, this tour was perfect - and the Jane Austen Festival in Bath was just fabulous to see!

Words fail me...The Downton Abbey was a perfectly wonderful travel experience! We did not know we would be the ONLY guests at the Abbey. When we realised how truly exclusive our tour was we were speechless! Surreal being there and actually meeting Lady Carnarvon.
